Chiquihuites

Chiquihuites Tourist Parador

The town of Chiquihuite is located in the Soconusco region, in Chiapas, on the slopes of the Tacaná Volcano, 6824.14 feet above sea level, in one of the highest points of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, and just a few kilometers from the emblematic Tacaná Volcano. This fascinating locality has an extension of nearly 600 hectares. Its 392 inhabitants, whose language is Mam, are mainly specialized in the floriculture of ornamental plants that reflect the lushness of Soconusco; and in self-supply agriculture, producing corn, potatoes, and gourd. In its lands, there is a wonderful convergence of Tropical Rainforests, Temperate Forests, and the enigmatic Cloud forest, habitat of the Resplendent Quetzal and the Horned Guan, emblematic birds of conservation in Mesoamerica; in addition, dozens of small regional specialties will delight your senses, such as: the Blue-tailed Hummingbird (Saucerottia cyanura), the Wine-throated Hummingbird (Selasphorus ellioti), the Black Hawk-Eagle (Spizaetus tyrannus), the Blue-throated Motmot (Aspatha gularis), the extremely rare Barred Parakeet (Bolborhynchus lineola) or the also rare North American Dipper (Cinclus mexicanus).
