Chocohuital

Ecotourism Center

Chocohuital

CChocochuital is a beautiful estuary located south of Pijijiapan, Chiapas, within the La Encrucijada Biosphere Reserve. The vegetation surrounding this ecotourism center is mainly made up of mangroves of great height, among which the Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) stands out. In Chocohuital you will find resident and migratory birds typical of Chiapas’ coast: herons, cormorants, pelicans, kingfishers, sandpipers, hawks; and specialties of the region, such as the Giant Wren (Matraca Chiapaneca), the Spot-Breasted Oriole and the Yellow Warbler (Mangrove). To get to Chocohuital we recommend taking the coastal highway (Carretera federal 200), entering the detour before the Nuevo Urbina town and the Pijijiapan bridge, along 20 km of road (about 12.42 miles) until reaching Chocohuital’s estuary; and then embarking on a trip by boat to Costa Azul.
